The idea is that Maternity and Paternity Leave combined with other parental leave can be combined. Currently man/partners can take Paternity leave 20 weeks after a child is born or adopted. The aim of the changes are to allow couples to have leave together or take paternity leave earlier allowing the mother to go back to work sooner than 20 weeks without losing a couples entitlement to paid leave.
I'm not going into too much detail as things will definitely change before 2015. In addition to the Maternity and Paternity changes, the government want all workers to have the right to request flexible working. Currently it is only those with young children who can request to change their hours to suit their needs,
